Today, in one hour I have to take my 17 year old pal to the vets where they will send him off to his quiet rest. I love him. That is all I can say right now.

Thanks Savannah. It is over now. He left my arms purring and that is how I want to remember him.
Oh, Prudence, that is so sad. Poor guy. Be glad that you gave him a lifetime of love. He sure was a good looking fella.

Thanks Dive, He was the balls! He taught every kitten I ever brought home how to hunt by bringing them 1/2 live things to torture. He was a quite presence. I will miss him.
That's sad, Prudence, but at least he went out in your arms. Seventeen years is a good long life.

Prudence, I am so sorry. I had to do that with/for my cat Smoky a couple of years ago. It's a tough thing to go through.
Rest assured, you will meet up again, and life wil be better for both of you and last forever. God Bless you both.
I'm so so sorry, Prudence. I have just realized pet love in the past few months and if I had to take my dog, Socks, in.....I would be a liquid mess.
He was a handsome guy....
What a beautiful cat he was Prudence. I can understand your sadness; I'm typing with my oldest cat (she's only 10) sitting on my lap. 17 was a grand age and his last thoughts were of having a cuddle with Mom. Hugs to you dear.

Thank you all for your kind words. The vets were also thoughtful and took a plaster cast of his foot print and a clip of his beautiful grey coat, put them in a pretty silk ouch with his name and date on it and sent it to me. Of course that set off another round of tears but thoughtful still.
